Maya’s Mission Class of 2024 Do Good Be Good Scholarship Guidelines

To honor Maya’s graduating classmates, Maya’s Mission is proud to present a one-time scholarship to graduating seniors who meet the following criteria and are chosen as one of the thirteen (13) winners from the submissions received.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Student must be a graduating senior from Roxbury High School (RHS) in Roxbury, NJ in the class of 2024

  2. The student must pursue advanced post-high school education at a recognized university, college, career training center, vocational training institution, etc.

  3. The applicant must show a consistent history of community volunteerism and/or work experience during his/her high school years

  4. The applicant must complete the full Maya’s Mission Class of 2024 Scholarship application and provide all requested letters of reference.

  5. The Applicant must submit an essay answering one of the prompts outlined on the application page.

  6. The successful applicant must remain a student in good standing and maintain a minimum 3.5 Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale.

  7. The Application will not be considered complete until all required materials have been received by Maya’s Mission on or before the publicized due date. Any materials after the due date will be considered invalid and the application null and incomplete.

  8. An official transcript from your present or most recently attended school.

  9. Students must submit at least one letter of reference from a non-family member (e.g., teachers, coach, clergy, employers, club advisor, scoutmaster, etc.) stating why the student aligns with the values of Maya’s Mission

    Essay Prompts:

    Students must submit an essay answering one of the following prompts of their choice. The essay must be no less than 1,500 words and submitted as a Microsoft Word attachment in the application form below.

    • Write about an act of kindness someone performed for you and how it changed your perspective on life. Describe how this, and future acts of kindness can impact lives beyond your own and how you can help perpetuate this.

    • Write about an event that took place in your life that changed the trajectory of your life, where your life may have been heading, and where it is heading now as a result of the event.

    • Reflect on a time when you faced a significant challenge or obstacle in your life. Describe how you overcame this challenge and the lessons you learned along the way.

    • Write about a mentor or role model who has had a profound impact on your life. Discuss the qualities or actions of this individual that inspired you and influenced your personal or professional development.

    • Describe a moment of personal growth or self-discovery that occurred as a result of stepping outside of your comfort zone. Reflect on how this experience has shaped your outlook on life and your approach to new opportunities and challenges.
